“Boğazımdaki Düğümler” / “Knots in My Throat” is a research project that explores the rich tradition of Anatolian weaving as a ritual, combining it with the use of code language, to indirectly communicate the intricacies of modern love.
The Anatolian symbols functioned as a stepping stone for the designer to revisit what has been left unsaid in relationships and liberate those words in the form of a modern symbol language. She creates this symbolic language, hiding her feelings within it—only to be deciphered by someone who cares enough to study them. The hints come later in the publication, like little keys to unlock what’s been hidden away. The project showcases the meanings of these symbols while taking you on a journey of how they liberate the knots in our throats.
The designer turns these symbols into “love letters” as a critique of the current climate of love and the role that communication and vulnerability play in romantic relationships. Through this modern take on symbolic motif language, she explores, questions, and tries to make sense of the way we connect, uncovering new perspectives on love and intimacy in the present day.
